Jean Solombre (French) Born 1948, Paris, France - Died 2005.
Jean Solombre is one of many superb works created by him. Mr. Solombre’s artwork has been exhibited in France at the Grand Palais, the Print Biennial at the Musee Galliera, and La FIAC (the International Fair of Contemporary Art). Among his other exhibits abroad have been Basel, Washington, Dusseldorf, Frankfort, and Cologne. He was first represented here in the United States by Bowles/Hopkins Publishing (San Francisco) and has attracted a large following here. His work is included in numerous public and private collections, such as the Spencer Collection (New York) and the Art Institute of Chicago. Many of his prints are included in the collection of the National Library of Paris, which devoted an article to him in its issue on print news. In it, the essence of his work was described as: “Solombre uses a mixed technique, etching and aquatint, an exacting labor cultivating a nuance, which leads to a simplification in which one can hear the resonance of silence and intermediate moments that so often astonish us and almost always dwell within us.” In addition to being a fine art artist, Mr. Solombre is also a talented writer of poetry and of short novels. ...
